is expensive.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re going to get it, make sure you have a delicious recipe.\u00a0 We can help with that part.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Have you been properly introduced to my dear friend, Balsamic vinegar?\u00a0 If you haven&#8217;t, now is the time.\u00a0 Sometimes the simplest of recipes can be the tastiest if you use the right ingredients &#8211; and balsamic falls under the category of right ingredients.<\/p>\n<p>The full list of marinade ingredients is in the recipe card below.<\/p>\n<p>You will get the most flavor from the marinade if you let the steak soak for at least four hours in the refrigerator.\u00a0 If you are short on time then here is a shortcut:<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Quick_Marinade\"><\/span>Quick Marinade<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Use a fork (or Jaccard if you have one) and punch a BUNCH of holes in the steak.\u00a0 Flank steak has a pretty tight grain structure so you are trying to break it up a little for easier marinade penetration.<\/p>\n<p>Place the flank in a shallow dish and pour 2\/3 of the marinade over the steak.\u00a0 Reserve the remaining marinade for basting while you grill.\u00a0 Let the steak marinade at room temperature for one hour and flip the steak in the dish every 15 minutes for even coverage.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Prepare_Your_Weber_Kettle\"><\/span>Prepare Your Weber Kettle<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I like grilling this steak over direct high heat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/extraordinarybbq.com\/bbqbasics\/charcoal\/\">Completely fill a standard charcoal chimney<\/a> with briquettes and light the charcoal. Once flames are shooting out the top of the chimney, dump the charcoal into the center of the charcoal grate.\u00a0 Use your tongs to arrange the charcoal around the middle of the grill.<\/p>\n<p>Keep the top and bottom air vents of the kettle completely open to get the coals as hot as possible.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter lazyload\" class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Grill_the_Flank_Steak\"><\/span>Grill the Flank Steak<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are two approaches to grilling a steak over direct high heat and both work great.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Approach #1: Passive Grilling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Place the steak directly over the hot coals, close the lid and wait 4-5 minutes.\u00a0 Flip the steak, close the lid and grill another 4-5 minutes and remove when the internal temperature reaches 135-140F.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Approach #2: Active Grilling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Place the steak directly over the hot coals.\u00a0 Leave the lid off and flip the steak every minute.\u00a0 Grill the steak, flipping every minute, for 10-15 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 135F.<\/p>\n<p>This is a great technique to use if you used a fast marinade as you can baste the steak with the reserved marinade between flips.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 599px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 599\/399;border: 4px solid black;\" id=\"Serving_the_Steak\"><\/span>Serving the Steak<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Let the steak rest for about 15 minutes on a platter before slicing.<\/p>\n<p>Slice the flank as thin as possible against the grain for maximum tenderness.<\/p>\n<p>You can serve this as a standard steak with grilled veggies or use it as a base for a <a href=\"https:\/\/extraordinarybbq.com\/bbq-flank-steak-pizza\/\"> Steak Pizza.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Try to talk the children into eating hot dogs or chicken.\u00a0 Unfortunately, my kids know the smell of beef from miles away, and they flock to it. \u00a0We have to hide it from them. \u00a0I try to put all the vegetables they don&#8217;t like all around it to make it look less appealing, but it usually doesn&#8217;t work.<\/p>\n<p>Of course it doesn&#8217;t work! \u00a0It&#8217;s beef!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Anyway, you&#8217;re going to want to make this. \u00a0It&#8217;s really good,
