I mean, why not? Right? I love french fries and I love grilling, so it was inevitable that I would try this. And oh my are they good!

Some of you may have noticed in my post last week, Grilled Portabella Burgers, there were delicious looking grilled fries as the side on this plated dish. I figured it was only fair that I share that recipe now, because if you love fries as much as I do, you want to try this very soon.

It’s really very easy, it just takes patience and you really have to watch the grill or they will burn fast.

First, simply cut some potatoes into steak fries. That’s easy enough. And you can do this way ahead of time and let them sit in a bowl of water. We do this all the time.

Drain the water, then toss them in a bowl with some olive oil.

I grilled mine in two stages to ensure they were done. First stage, I laid aluminum foil down on my grill, sprayed the foil with oil and laid the french fries on the foil. This prevents burning. I cooked them for about 5 minutes on each side, being careful when I turned them to not rip the foil.

Once they were brown and I thought they were done, I took them off the foil and placed them directly on the grill to achieve the cool grill marks. This only takes a minute or two.

Take them off, put them in a bowl, sprinkle with sea salt and add a few finely choppped chives. Sprinkle with garlic powder or a freshly sliced garlic clove. For the final touch, shave some fresh asiago cheese over all of them while still hot. The cheese will slightly melt over the fries and add a delicious flavor. If you don’t like asiago, you can of course use a different kind of cheese on your fries, or none at all – but I do think your grilled french fries will taste better with a sprinkle of your favorite cheese.

Dig in and enjoy!
