- 3 pounds of apples peeled, cut in half and cored
- 1/2 water 1/2 lemon juice mixture - we used 1/4 cup of each.
- 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/2 tsn salt
- 2 strips of lemon peel
- 1/2 tsn grated cinnamon stick
- 2 tsn vanilla
Smoke your apples on indirect heat (275F) for about 10 minutes - 5 minutes on each side, or until they are soft and have grill marks.
In a sauce pan, combine, water/lemon juice mixture, the sugars, salt, lemon, cinnamon and vanilla. Add in the apples.
Cook at a low heat, covered, stirring frequently. Mash the apples as they let you. Once it cooks down, you can add more liquid if needed. Serve warm...mostly because there's nothing better than warm applesauce. Yum.
