Melinda’s Habanero Wing Sauce Review {Thumbs Up!}

I have been stuck in a grilling rut, doing the same things again and again.  I decided to spice up my grill life and add a little variety by exploring some new sauces and flavor profiles.

One amazing new flavor I found was Melinda’s Creamy Style Habanero Wing Sauce and Condiment!

Let’s take a closer look at what is in this bottle and what meals it works with!

How Does Melinda’s Creamy Habanero Sauce Taste?

Melinda’s self rates this sauce as “Three Peppers out of Five” on its own spiciness scale and I think that is a fair assessment.  Melinda’s developed a sauce that is focused more on flavor than spiciness but still has enough heat to grab your attention.

The sauce is a mix of cayenne and habanero pepper mashes so you get a balanced heat profile instead of a one note punch.  I found that the heat starts slowly spreads through my mouth and then rests in a lingering burn on the side of my tongue.

The sauce is well round with extra flavors from the vinegar, carrots, onions and lime juice.  There is even a little butter listed as an ingredient and that is always a good thing!

How We Used Melinda’s Habanero Sauce

Of course the very first thing we tried this sauce on was a batch of grilled chicken wings!

We let the wings grill until the skin was crispy and the meat was bubbling juices.  We took the wings off the grill, tossed them in the sauce and returned them to the grill to set up.

The sauce didn’t add a lot of color to the wings but it sure brought the flavor!

I put the wings in front of my guests and kids and folks were a bit nervous.  They saw the bottle of Habanero Sauce and were afraid that their mouths were about to be lit up.

One by one everyone grabbed a wing, took a bite and agreed that, while the wings had plenty of kick, they had a ton of flavor and were not so hot that you couldn’t eat them.  Overall there was a nice balance of heat and flavor and it certainly fits the bill for chicken wings.

Grilled Wings with Melinda Habanero Sauce

I am a big fan of pairing beef with spicy flavors so next up on the taste test adventure was using the Habanero sauce on some flank steak fajitas.

We grilled up the steak and sautéed some bell peppers and onions.

The fajitas were served on corn tortillas with sour cream and Melinda’s Creamy Style Habanero sauce.

I swear that this sauce is just as good, or even better, with steak fajitas as it is with chicken wings!  The steak just “popped” with this sauce and the play between the spiciness of the habaneros and the cool creaminess of the sour cream was simply delightful.

I am now using this sauce as a regular breakfast condiment.

My typical breakfast is an egg white omelet with diced turkey along with a cup of hot coffee.  Egg white omelets can get pretty boring after a while but that changes fast as soon as you give it a shot of Melinda’s Habanero sauce!

The sauce really wakes up the eggs and there is something magical about chasing down spicy foods with a drink of hot coffee.

Talk about one heck of a way to start the day!

Overall Impressions of Melinda’s Creamy Style Habanero Wing Sauce

I am impressed that Melinda’s developed a habanero based sauced that is so much more than stupid heat.  These folks have a respectful heat level dialed in and, in what is rare these days, has the heat level properly indicated on the label.

The spiciness is balanced by the acidity of the vinegar and lime juice with plenty of other flavors coming along for the ride.

Melinda’s Creamy Style Habanero Wing Sauce has turned into one of my household staples and I give it a massive thumbs up!
