.I love when a picture says everything all by itself. I mean, how GOOD does this look? The best part is that it actually tastes better than it looks. Your favorite part will be that it takes about 10 minutes from beginning to end.
I love discovering recipes that are tasty, easy and impressive. So many people love shrimp, and nobody I know ever grills them. So this is always a fun one to surprise people with as an appetizer when they come over, while they’re waiting for the main dish to be ready.
I’m lucky – one of my best friends happens to be a certified chef and he regularly gives me batches of his famous “Chef J’s Crazy Cajun Spice“, amongst other delectable treats that find their way into my home…oh how I look forward to Chef J stop by’s…
But you’re lucky too, because he shared the recipe and I shared it with you HERE. You’re welcome.
How to Prepare the Shrimp
For this recipe you can use fresh shrimp or frozen – doesn’t really matter. I usually buy frozen 2 pound bags of shrimp that are 16-20 size. You can use larger shrimp if you like but try not to go smaller.
Make sure the shrimp is thawed, de-veined, shell and tail removed.
Toss the peeled shrimp four tablespoons of melted butter mixed with 2 tablespoons of Cajun Seasoning.
Cajun Seasoning Mix
- 4 tbs paprika
- 1 tbs black pepper
- 1 tbs cayenne pepper
- 1 tbs chili powder
- 1 tbs cumin
- 1 tbs gran garlic
- 1 tbs onion powder
- 1 tbs kosher or sea salt
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp basil
- 1 tsp white sugar
Grill The Cajun Shrimp
This recipe is adapted from Chef J…who prepares them on a stove, not a grill. But why would I use a stove when my Weber is just sitting out there, lonely as can be?
Set up your grill for direct high heat and place the seasoned shrimp in a perforated veggie tray.
Place the veggie tray over direct heat and cook the shrimp for about 5 minutes. Lightly toss the shrimp every minute to ensure even cooking.
As soon as they turn that pretty orange color – they’re done. You can see the difference in cooked/uncooked color in the above picture.
Dump the cooked shrimp in a bowl and toss with your delicious BBQ Cajun Sauce you prepared and you are DONE. If you like shrimp and like a kick, you will love this BBQ Cajun shrimp recipe. It represents everything that is right with BBQ, seafood, and simplicity of preparation.
